James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, co-signed the 2011 Budget today with Michael Fabricant, Member of Parliament for Lichfield.
In addition to his role as Government Whip, James is also a Lord Commissioner of Her Majesty’s Treasury. Within this role James is part of The Royal Commission, comprising of seven positions. Prime Minister David Cameron, First Lord of the Treasury; Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, second Lord of the Treasury; and five Lord Commissioners.
It is through James’ role as one of the appointed Lord Commissioners to sign the proposed Budget. The Budget requires authorisation from two Lord Commissioners prior to the presentation of the Budget to Government.
James said
“When David Cameron appointment me as a Lord Commissioner, if I am honest, I didn’t really understand the variety of tasks that I would be asked to perform. Signing the budget was definitely not something I had ever envisaged doing!”
Being an MP, no two days are the same. Today is a memorable day and I am honoured to have signed the 2011 budget.”
