James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, confirms that the deadline for the Heroes Return 2 programme has been extended to 31 January 2012. The Heroes Return 2 scheme provides Big Lottery funding to help World War II veterans that saw active service, take part in commermorative visits. Visits can be within the UK and overseas and they need to mark the anniversary of events that led to the end of WWII.
War widows and widowers of veterans are eligible for funding. Carers and spouses are also able to receive funding if travelling with the veterans. Grants vary from £150 to £5,5000 depending on the number of people taking part and the destination they are travelling to.
James said
“I am delighted that the Big Lottery Fund have extended the Heroes Return 2 programme. I would urge anyone eligible for the funding to submit an application. Some 50,000 individuals have benefited from the scheme to date and I hope many more will be able to, before the scheme finishes in January 2012.”
